Clariens
Scientific and medical education provider in Brazil
Mubadala Capital began evaluating an investment in the FTC Group at the end of 2019, and proposed a transaction to spin off and acquire Clariens, the Group’s medical division and its most attractive business unit. The regulatory complexity and the management of transaction liabilities narrowed the field of potential buyers/partners for the business and allowed us to negotiate favorable terms. In June of 2022, Mubadala Capital completed the acquisition of 80% of Clariens from the FTC Group. Since taking control of the company, Mubadala Capital has actively pursued M&A opportunities, executing strategic transactions that have tripled the number of seats.

Atvos
Brazilian biofuel producer
We acquired a significant stake in sugarcane-to-ethanol business Atvos, the 2nd largest ethanol player in Brazil, from creditors, combined with a debt restructuring. The transaction allowed Atvos to exit from one of the largest ever judicial recoveries (chapter 11 equivalent) in Brazil. We injected capital to realign management, operations, and crop yield.
